55 Flash Fiction Friday #2

"I can teach him to be kind,
to help others,
help the poor,
the sick,
to stand against evil,
to be good,
to become a strong man,
to right the wrongs of society,
to help the world become better,
if you will marry me."

"If I do, we do, what will we name him?"

"Jesus."

Very nice 55!

I used the counter. I love it! Thank you so much!

Hi SignGurl,
I'm glad you like it. Please let me know if you think there's anything I should do different with it (especially if you install the Google Gadget).

oh charles, that was wonderful! we so often forget joseph's perspective don't we? just marvelous.

and the new gadget is most helpful. thank you for your work on that.

Lime,
Thank you. I think that his influence was/is overlooked more often than what it really had in his life. He saved Mary from what surely would have been less than desirable. Mary Magdalene would likely have been stoned if not for Joseph's actions. The forgiveness we enjoy may be a result of it, even today.

CHARLES! you are a genius! This is Brilliant!

Joseph's proposal to Mary; such beautifully made offer!

I guess you are 'professional' at that too!

& I Love love love the new device you invented. It made my task at least ten times easier & faster!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! You picked it right out of my head. I got one that is called proud Mary that follows this. I'm shocked!! I was beat to the punch!

Mona,
Thank you, but I'm merely talented, not a genius. I'm a little confused, what do you mean by 'professional'?
I'm hoping many folks will enjoy the gadget. I find it makes my writing to 55 words much easier.

Mike,
Well, how could I have picked it from your head? I wrote this Wednesday, maybe there's something resonating in the idea-sphere? Thanks, Bud.

What I mean by professional is that you have technically & thematically perfected the art of writing a Flash 55 fiction!

At Friday, November 9, 2007 at 7:11:00 AM EST, Blogger Charles $visitorIP said...

Mona,
OK, I thought perhaps you were referring to how he proposed in this, since it could be looked upon as less than romantic.

At Friday, November 9, 2007 at 7:43:00 AM EST, Blogger Mike Minzes $visitorIP said...

I wrote one a few months ago I was saving for the day after Thanksgiving. Send me an email and I will give you an advance copy of it. Either way you get props for it.

How could she say NO, with such a sweet proposal. Superb 55 Charles, and thanks for the gadget that stops me tearing my hair out.

I don't have you email address at work, so if you email me I will send you that 55 and you will see just how close they are.

Ok Im tripping out about you and Mike having a little flash fiction ESP there!

Loving the counter gadget Charles thank you SOOO Much!

At Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11:34:00 AM EST, Blogger Charles $visitorIP said...

Mike,
I'll send you an email in a little while.

Queenie,
It was a generous proposal and in those days it may have saved her life, so I think it would have been really difficult to say no.

Rebicmel,
Thank you. Confessions are for when you have done somthing wrong are they not? I am encouraging folks to use it, that's why I made it into a gadget, so that you can put it on your blog, website, or your iGoogle homepage. I went and checked, but didn't see it on your blog though, unless you restricted the display to the admin user.

Susie,
It is a little on the strange side, isn't it? I suppose that Snow Elf would say that it's an Ironic Coincidence. :D

At Friday, November 9, 2007 at 12:27:00 PM EST, Blogger lime $visitorIP said...

fyi, there is a christian musician by the name of michael card who has written a song that i think is titled 'joseph's song' from joseph's perspective. very beautiful lyrics.

At Friday, November 9, 2007 at 2:06:00 PM EST, Blogger snowelf $visitorIP said...

Charles,

Since I was a naughty Snowelf and wrote mine on PAPER and in PEN during a "lecture" in A+, I didn't get to check out your cool little counter yet, but I promise I will!! You already know I have such and admiration and awe for programmers--thank you for making it. :)

And this is truly one of the sweetest 55's ever. And I must add, how funny that you and Mike though of the same subject AND also that you AND Mona both wrote of biblical tales! Ironic indeed! ;)

Wonderful 55, Charles! I think it's my favorite today!

I haven't been brave enough to try to install your counter yet... I'm so tech-less. But sometime in the future I plan on it. I usually do mine in Word and then cut and paste... and I usually lose the formatting along the way. I'm thinking your counter would make it much easier!

Snow, it was no coincidence.I had an idea about what Charles had written as he had told me. I guess my subconscious picked up the same line.

At Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 6:53:00 AM EST, Blogger Kimberly $visitorIP said...

Arrgh, just lost my comment. I'll rewrite an abridged version:
-Thanks for the gadget! I've installed it and linked to it from my site (smarmoofus.com)
-Beautifully written 55!

At Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 7:58:00 AM EST, Blogger Charles $visitorIP said...

Lime,
Thanks, I'll look into finding that song.

SnowElf,
I didn't think you could be naughty in an A+ class, shows how much I know. ;D Thanks for the compliment, I enjoyed yours also. Mike offered to send me an advanced copy of his when he saw mine. Apparently Mike's was something he had both conceived and written but was saving for a special day(after Thanksgiving). Although they are inspired by the same idea, I think that once he publishes his, it will prove so different, no one but Mike will feel I read his mind (I can't do that (purple?)). I don't think that it would have made me feel that he had "stolen" anything from me. When it comes down to it, I think most of us are very honest about our work.

Snow White,
Thank you! It looks like Kimberly (below(or her technicians)) has successfully installed the gadget on her blog (smarmoofus.com), so I'm going to add her to my list. Unfortunately, I haven't added any formatting capabilities to mine. I may if others request it it, but I haven't yet had any requests. I find it makes it easier for me to write my 55 since I don't have to take my thought processes through a separate thread of thought, counting or calculating, while searching my mind for the right words(should be much easier, there's so few in there).

Mona,
Inspiration is where you find it. Sometimes it's in things we read, sometimes in things we see, hear, taste, smell, or feel with our senses, and sometimes it's found in our hearts.

Kimberly,
Sorry about the loss of the comment. You're welcome for/to the gadget, I hope it helps. I just checked out your site but haven't yet commented there (I'll be there momentarily.) Thank you!

No worries, Charles. The lost comment was certainly not your fault. I believe a keystroke caused me to backpage when I should've submitted. Or I'm making that up.

` Nice usage of the 55th word! I guess FFF is almost like a haiku.

` Sigh. It's inspired me enough to possibly wind up doing that if I can't figure anything else out on Friday.
` Or any half-nudity on Thursday.

SEEQUINE,
I think you'd do these well, and if you use my tool (you can use the one in my footer at the bottom of this page) then it will probably take you less than 2 minutes, if you have an idea in mind. I think you'd do some good thinking method 55s, but I think you have much more to offer than just that subject.

With a proposal like that, how could Mary say no?

Very well done Charles!!

I don't know how she could have said no, but fortunately, we don't need to know.

NGAC,
Thanks.

Charles this was great. In 54 words you built suspense and a sense of "where is this going?" The last word really threw me for a loop. I like your focus on the humanitarian side of Jesus. Really, really well done...

Jim,
Thank you. I've been reading them for quite a while and just recently got the nerve up to try them, since so many before me have set the bar so high.
Although there are many who would deny that Jesus was the Messiah, there can be no denying that he showed us how to be better people, and if for no other reason, he can be considered a Savior.
