Despair
He was pretty sure the next name on the list was his own. It felt like it. He could feel the impending presence, could hear the rustling of coarse cloth, could smell the stench. The Grim Reaper must have been in the neighborhood.
The phone rang, an unrecognized number appeared and for a brief moment it brought hope that someone was calling about a job. A moment of brightness that was just long enough to repel the feeling of imminent death. It was a wrong number, and the lady apologized. He hung up.
He was filled with hope for a moment, and reminded that hope is always there, so long as life is. He knew she couldn't hear him, but he said it aloud, "You may be sorry, Lady, but you gave me hope. Thank you."

Awwww...
Charles, you are so right. I think about that very thing all the time...even when things feel hopeless.

Sometimes, when its really necessary I think God can send a message, to not give up. That's what this is about. It may seem like an accident, it may seem random, it may be from the least likely ungodly source, but if we listen to the message carefully, we can discern that its a message of hope, and not to give up. Where there's life, there's hope.
I am glad you feel that way. It shows that you are a very brave person & I feel proud to have you as my friend.
If it weren't for the possibility of Hope, I don't know what any of us would do. Even when it seems like Hope has abandoned us, it's lurking somewhere in the background. It has to be. If it isn't, I don't wanna know.
Even a mistake may bring hope to someone who really needs hope at a given instant. Sometimes it isn't what we know that helps others, its that we do something mistakenly with no intention of help.
:< That was sad. But nice too :)
NGAC,
It is rather sad, but the point is that even our mistakes may bring hope to others, and that's a good thing.
